THE DROWNING GIRLS
by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, Daniela Vlaskalic
“The Drowning Girls” draws inspiration from the chilling true stories of Bessie Mundy, Alice Burnham, and Margaret Lofty, who were all murdered between 1912 and 1914 by the same man, George Joseph Smith. In a haunting narrative, the three brides
emerge from the bathtubs where their lives were stolen, gathering evidence against their charming, charismatic, greedy, murderous husband while reliving the events leading to their tragic ends. The play explores the misconceptions of love and the societal issues that allowed such crimes to go unnoticed for so long.
